Johnson Greenhouses hosts two of only three ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) Certified installers in the whole Coastal Bend. Anyone can spread some sand, place bricks on top, and call it a patio. Only a correctly installed patio will withstand weather extremes and the test of time. On all patios and walkways we install, we first excavate 6" to 8". We then go back in with road base, compacted several times. Sand is screeded over that, then the pavers or flagstone are installed. Everything is compacted once again and a layer of polymeric sand is used to seal the patio or walkway. A properly installed stone patio will feel as sturdy as concrete you just don't have to deal with the cracks. The same professional installation is evident in our fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, retaining walls and rock work.
